About

Rutgers Giving Day, taking place on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, is a daylong celebration of Rutgers excellence and scarlet pride For one day, our community will unite to give back and help Rutgers help the world. Throughout the day, you can participate in any of the hourly and daylong challenges and join in on social media to earn support for your favorite Rutgers schools and programs.

Making a Gift

How do I make a gift?

On March 23, visit givingday.rutgers.edu. You can choose a Rutgers fund to support by browsing all funds or by searching for a specific fund by name or category. Click on any of the named-fund tiles to learn more and click the giving button to make a gift to that fund. You can also select the “Other (write-in)” option if you do not see the Rutgers school or program you’d like to support.

Is it safe to make my gift online?

Yes. Rutgers University Foundation will not store, nor be able to access, your credit card information. Additionally, the contact information collected during Rutgers Giving Day will be used only by the Rutgers University Foundation.

Where do gifts go?

Your gift will support the specific Rutgers area you choose.

Is there a minimum donation amount?

Yes, there is a $5 minimum gift requirement.

Can I give over the phone?

It is best to make your gift directly online with a credit card. If you have any questions, please email givingday@ruf.rutgers.edu so a staff member can further assist you.

Can I give via stock in support of Rutgers Giving Day?

Yes! You can make a gift of stock to support your school, unit, or program by visiting https://support.rutgers.edu/support-rutgers/cash-stocks-matching-gifts/make-a-stock-gift-form/. To make sure your stock counts for Rutgers Giving Day, please also email givingday@ruf.rutgers.edu to confirm you have submitted your form.

As a Rutgers staff member, can I give via payroll deduction?

Yes, learn more on the staff deductions page of the foundation website. If you have further questions, please email givingday@ruf.rutgers.edu. Gifts made by payroll deduction will not apply to hourly and daylong challenges.

Will my Rutgers Giving Day contribution be tax deductible?

Yes, your gift is entirely tax deductible. You will receive an immediate email acknowledgment and gift confirmation that will also serve as your tax receipt.

Can I create a recurring gift?

Yes, you can make a recurring monthly gift by selecting the recurring gift option on the gift form.

Challenges for Award Money

What is the Save-the-Date Challenge?

From March 9 - 22, share the Rutgers Giving Day video on givingday.rutgers.edu on social media pages. One person will be selected each day to win a Rutgers polo shirt and the opportunity to award their favorite Rutgers area with $100 in additional funding. To enter, use the #RUGivingDay, make your post public, and mention the Rutgers area you want to win! If posting on Facebook, please also tag the Rutgers University Foundation or Rutgers University Alumni Association Facebook page to ensure we can track your post. Increase your chances by sharing as many times as you like.

What are challenges on Rutgers Giving Day?

Hourly and daylong challenges offer opportunities to provide additional funds for your favorite Rutgers causes. Challenges will take place throughout the day. Beginning March 9, you can view all the upcoming challenges via the challenges tab on givingday.rutgers.edu.
On day-of, you can also track the progress of your favorite area of Rutgers via the leaderboard tab on givingday.rutgers.edu. Some leaderboards encourage healthy competition to award funds additional funding.

When will the results of the day of timed challenges be announced?

Following each challenge, the results will be posted on the challenges tab next to the corresponding challenge on the site.

Spreading the Word

How can I help spread the word about Rutgers Giving Day and encourage others to participate?

Encouraging support for your favorite funds is easy! Visit the Spread the Word tab on givingday.rutgers.edu on March 23 for social media resources to inspire others to make a gift. Also, follow Rutgers University on Twitter and Facebook and the Rutgers University Alumni Association on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. Join in conversations as our community comes together to help Rutgers help the world on #RUGivingDay.

WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP GET THE WORD OUT ABOUT RUTGERS GIVING DAY?

You can also inspire your friends, family, and Rutgers networks to participate by signing up to be a Rutgers Giving Day Ambassador. Ambassadors will receive a unique tracking link to encourage their peers using social media, email, and text to make a gift. 

Trivia Event for Alumni, Students and Friends

Are you ready to test your Rutgers Giving Day knowledge? Join the first ever #RUGivingDay virtual trivia event on March 23 from 7-8 p.m. Giving Day trivia will be jam-packed with opportunities to win prizes, compete against fellow Rutgers alumni, students, and friends, and you can even win award money for your favorite Rutgers cause. Events for Students

On March 23, students will also have a chance to participate in a scavenger hunt and support their favorite Rutgers causes at locations in Camden, New Brunswick, and Newark. Check out the challenges tab and the events tab for additional ways to be involved.
